Hospice care is a type of health care that focuses on the palliation of a terminally ill patient's pain and symptoms and attending to their emotional and spiritual needs at the end of life. Hospice care prioritizes comfort and quality of life by reducing pain and suffering.
Our palliative care in San Antonio, TX is a resource for anyone living with a serious illness, such as heart failure (https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/what-heart-failure), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(link is external) (https://youtu.be/_obAlFbZDbY), cancer (https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/advanced-cancer/care-choices/palliative-care-fact-sheet), dementia (https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/diagnosing-dementia), Parkinson’s disease (https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/parkinsons-disease), and many others. Palliative care can be helpful at any stage of illness and is best provided soon after a person is diagnosed.
In addition to improving quality of life and helping with symptoms, palliative care can help patients understand their choices for medical treatment.
Advance care planning and end-of-life decisions
When a person is diagnosed with a serious illness, they should prioritize early advance care planning conversations with their family and doctors.
